Aramazd Ghalamkaryan, Chairman of the Water Committee (WC), participated on October 6–9 in Geneva in the 6th Meeting of the Task Force on Sustainable Financing of Water Resources and the 21st Meeting of the Working Group on Integrated Water Resources Management, organized under the framework of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes.
The meetings were attended by representatives of the "Water Convention" member countries and partner organizations, as well as representatives of newly acceded states, countries in the process of accession, and invited nations.
The discussions focused on integrated and cross-sectoral water resources management, transboundary cooperation, the development of sustainable financing mechanisms for the water sector, adaptation to climate change impacts, and the conjunctive management of surface water and groundwater.
Reference was also made to the water–energy–food–ecosystem nexus, national priorities, and the implementation of international obligations.
Aramazd Ghalamkaryan, Chairman of the Water Committee, delivered a speech during the events, presenting the priorities of Armenia’s water sector, ongoing sectoral reforms, and the work accomplished over the past year within the National Policy Dialogue (NPD) platform for the Armenian water sector, which has been operational since 2006. In this context, he highlighted the necessity of developing a national water strategic plan as a means to clarify priorities for sector development.
The Chairman of the WC expressed gratitude to the European Union for funding the NPD platform, as well as to UNECE and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for their ongoing support.
Addressing upcoming initiatives, he noted that the development of a roadmap for Armenia's water sector transformation agenda will be discussed during the annual NPD meeting scheduled for December 2026.
