A meeting was held at the Water Committee with a representative mission from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to discuss ongoing cooperation and opportunities for implementing new projects in the water sector.

During the meeting, the ADB delegation presented the Bank's recent policy changes regarding technical assistance, available financial instruments, and new support mechanisms, including cost-reimbursable technical assistance and the "Project Support Lending" instrument approved this summer.

The parties discussed potential applications of these new tools in preparing and executing priority projects within Armenia's water sector. Specifically, the agenda addressed the modernization of wastewater treatment plants in Gavar, Martuni, and Vardenis within the Lake Sevan basin, the construction of sewage collection and disposal systems in adjacent rural settlements, as well as plans to build new reservoirs in Getik, Karmirgyugh, Garnahovit, and Yeghvard.

Aramazd Ghalamkaryan, Chairman of the Water Committee, highlighted the ADB's flexible approach and the multifaceted partnership built with the Bank, emphasizing the strategic importance of joint Water Committee-ADB projects aimed at modernizing Armenia's water infrastructure.

ADB representatives noted that these newly developed instruments can be applied during the stages of feasibility studies, detailed engineering design, field site investigations, and compliance with environmental and social safeguard requirements, thereby ensuring project preparation meets high-quality international standards.
