Today, an event dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the formation of the Water Committee was held at the hall of the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran). It was attended by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan, President of the Constitutional Court Arman Dilanyan, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan, as well as representatives of legislative and executive bodies, international organizations, and other partner entities.

The RA Prime Minister congratulated the attendees on the occasion and delivered a speech in which he particularly addressed the issues of the water sector. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that our attitude toward water must undergo a fundamental change.

The Head of State also highlighted the necessity and importance of changing approaches toward agriculture, noting that the goal should be set so that there are no longer unirrigated agricultural lands in Armenia, and that other lands of various designations are converted into orchards. He added that present-day Armenia possesses sufficient water resources, with expert estimates indicating that 5 to 7 billion cubic meters of water resources are formed annually in the country.

Aramazd Ghalamkaryan, Chairman of the Water Committee, delivered welcoming remarks, expressing gratitude and appreciation to the country's leadership for honoring the event with their presence. In his speech, the head of the Water Committee emphasized: "The next 25 years of Armenia's water sector begin today. And today, I want to emphasize the importance of taking ownership. Taking ownership not merely through words or toasts, but through daily hard work, genuine devotion, and silent, persistent, patient effort—placing human beings and nature at its core."

"Today, at this responsible milestone, as Chairman of the Water Committee, I would like to voice several ambitious commitments essential for the future of our country and people. These stem directly from Armenia's economic and institutional transformation doctrine, which we, together with government partners, will implement by 2031:

• Annual reduction of water abstraction from Lake Sevan
• Launching the construction of 10 new reservoirs, completing the construction of the Kaps Reservoir, and updating the Yeghvard Reservoir project
• Modernizing wastewater treatment plants in the Lake Sevan basin and constructing sewerage systems
• Construction and reconstruction of 350 km of canals and pipelines
• Providing irrigation for 10,000 hectares of new land
• 24-hour water supply in Yerevan, Gyumri, and Vanadzor
• Establishing a state scientific-research and design center
• Auditing national hydro-infrastructure
• Shifting public mindset and behavior toward water conservation."

Concluding his speech, the Chairman added that while making the above a reality will be difficult, he has no doubt that with the immense support of the country's leadership, the existing willpower, and the precise allocation of resources, the Water Committee is ready to deliver these results.

At the end of the event, the RA Prime Minister presented awards and letters of appreciation to a number of individuals who have contributed to the water sector.
