At the invitation of the implementing partner organizations of the "EU for Green Recovery" regional program, employees of the Water Committee participated in a training workshop on wastewater management.

The goal of the workshop was to build the capacity of representatives from the Water Committee of the MTAI of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Environment, and other stakeholder agencies through the presentation and discussion of theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the requirements of the EU's old and new Urban Waste Water Treatment Directives, as well as the necessary steps for their implementation at the national level.

Benoît Fribourg-Blanc, representative of the International Office for Water (France), presented key definitions of wastewater systems and core concepts required for developing a precise regulatory framework. He also shared the experiences of EU Member States and addressed the associated technical and institutional implications.

Discussions covered issues related to the collection, transport, and discharge of wastewater generated by human activity, the management of urban wastewater, as well as the development of a sectoral regulatory framework and supporting local self-government bodies in its implementation.

As part of the workshop, a site visit was organized to the wastewater treatment plant built under a subvention program in the settlement of the Gold Extraction Plant (GEP) in the city of Ararat.
