The Yerevan Water Supply Improvement Program was implemented with the financial support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Union’s Neighbourhood Investment Facility (EU NIF). The total cost of the program amounted to 29 million USD, of which 14 million USD was provided as a loan, 7 million USD as a grant, and 8 million USD constituted co-financing from the Government of the Republic of Armenia. The implementation of the program commenced in 2014.

Program Objectives

• Rehabilitation of severely worn and dilapidated water supply distribution networks in private housing and formerly self-built districts of Yerevan.
• Replacement of individual household service lines.
• Reconstruction and modernization of physically worn and dilapidated yard booster pump stations in multi-apartment buildings.
• Replacement of emergency service lines in multi-apartment buildings.

Expected Outcomes

• Reduction of system water losses.
• Increased reliability in the management of water supply distribution networks.
• Improvement of the metering system and enhancement of water quality.
• Provision of a round-the-clock water supply.
• Increased collection of fees for supplied water quantities.
• Reduction of operational costs for multi-apartment building yard booster pump stations.

Works Implemented and Results Achieved

The following works were carried out in the Kentron, Aygestan, Avan, Nորk-Marash, Shengavit, Erebuni, Arabkir, Kanaker-Zeytun, Haghtanak, Silikyan, Pirumyan, and Nor Kharberd districts of Yerevan, the settlement of Balahovit, as well as at the Araratyan Pump Station:

• 200.6 km of water supply distribution network rehabilitated.
• 129 km of individual household connection pipelines replaced.
• 19,176 subscriber metering nodes installed.
• 30 yard booster pump stations reconstructed.
• 3 new pumps replaced at the Araratyan Pump Station.

Following the implementation of the program, more than 63,858 beneficiaries in the aforementioned districts of Yerevan were provided with a 24-hour water supply, water losses were reduced to a minimum, supplied water volumes decreased by 25–40%, and operational costs were significantly lowered. The program concluded on December 31, 2025.
